A thigh lift removes excess inner-thigh skin and refines contour, most often after significant weight loss. It is sometimes combined with liposuction to improve shape.
A thigh lift suits patients with loose inner-thigh skin where weight is stable. Miss Hunter assesses skin quality, the amount of excess and your goals before advising.
For the right patient, a thigh lift can give the inner thigh a firmer, more youthful contour that sits in better proportion with the rest of the body, particularly where loose skin has remained after significant weight loss.
Excess skin is removed and the thigh tightened, leaving a scar usually in the groin crease and sometimes running down the inner thigh, depending on the amount of skin. The scar pattern is explained at consultation.
There are two main approaches. A medial (inner) thigh lift reduces excess skin and fat from the upper portion of the inner thigh, leaving a scar that sits within the groin crease. After significant weight loss, a scar oriented both along the groin crease and down the inner thigh may be needed. Miss Hunter advises which approach suits the amount and position of your excess skin.
Typically patients have drains placed and stay overnight. Compressive garments, such as tight leggings or cycle shorts, should be worn day and night for six weeks, and vigorous lower-body exercise should be avoided during this time too. Risks can include scarring, delayed healing, fluid collection, wound separation, asymmetry, altered sensation and, occasionally, revision. These are discussed fully at consultation.
